Agnes THOMPSON

Agnes Marie Thompson, born on December 27, 1938, peacefully left this world on August 31, 2023, at the age of 84, after a brief illness. Surrounded by her loving family, she bid farewell to her earthly existence. Agnes leaves behind cherished memories for her four children: Darcy Thompson (Susan) of Collingwood (Ont.), Derek Thompson (Jenny English) of Saskatoon, David Thompson (Kazuko Ihara) of Tokyo, and Debbie Mackenzie (Randy) of Saskatoon. In addition, she is survived by her eight grandchildren: Jordon (Michaela), Ashton (Katie), Grey, Meredith, Drew (Tara), Zachary, Zayne, and Haley. Agnes is also mourned by her siblings Alfred Meier and Lorraine Gamble, as well as numerous close friends and relatives. Her dear husband of 62 years, Roy Thompson, preceded her in death, along with her brothers Ray Meier, Leonard Meier, and Morris Meier, her parents Frank and Mary Meier, and niece Michelle Gamble.

Agnes was born on a farm outside of Salvador, Saskatchewan, and was the second oldest of six children. Eventually, her family settled in Moose Jaw. In 1956, she married airman Roy Thompson, embarking on a 25-year journey that led them to reside in New Brunswick, Belgium, France, Germany, Nova Scotia, and Ontario. They eventually returned to Agnes’s Saskatchewan roots, where they lived in Swift Current, Regina, and, for the past 40 years, Saskatoon. Throughout their numerous relocations, Agnes adeptly created 22 nurturing homes for her growing family, navigating 14 different villages, towns, and military bases in four countries and four Canadian provinces. Outside of her caregiving responsibilities, Agnes also pursued various occupations.

Agnes will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and a dear friend to many. Her smiling eyes, sense of humor, and warm embraces will be sorely missed. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Royal University Hospital for their care and compassion during Agnes’s illness.
