It is with a heavy heart and tears in our eyes that we announce the peaceful passing of Alex at the age of 81. He passed away at Pioneer Manor on Saturday, August 12, 2023, after a challenging battle with lewey body dementia. Alex was preceded in death by his father, Mike, step-mother, Olga, birth mother, Helen, in-laws, Bill and Jessie Frizell, and his cousin Dennis (Joan). He was the beloved husband of Joan (Frizell) for a remarkable 60 years. Alex was a loving father to Dave (Heather), Lori Bot (Jim), and Mike (Tara), and a cherished grandpa to Jennifer, Kevin, Chrisopher, Claudia, Carissa, Jayden, and Charla. He will also be forever remembered by Cohen and Kaden. Alex is survived by his sister, Ruth Nelson (Eddie, predeceased), and was a brother-in-law to Marion Durigon (Gino), Barb Frizell, Beverly Lawson (predeceased), and Bill Frizell. Kevin Carvell and Vicki Ann Morrissey were fortunate to have him as their godparent. He will be missed by his nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, especially Jim and Lorraine Carvell, who held a special place in his heart.
Throughout his working years, Alex tirelessly served as an electrician at INCO, dedicating 30 years of his life to the company. After retiring in 1993, he pursued his passion for restoring vehicles. For 45 years, Alex actively participated in the Historical Automobile Society and was a committed vendor at the Barrie Automobile Flea Market. His skills and dedication to his hobby left an indelible mark on the community. The staff at Pioneer Manor (Cedar) provided exceptional care for Alex during his stay, demonstrating care and compassion not only to him but also to his family in his final days. Despite the challenges brought on by dementia, Alex always maintained his sense of humor, an aspect of his personality that endeared him to the staff.
A funeral service will be held at the Lougheed Funeral Home, located at 252 Regent Street at Hazel Street, on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11am. Interment will follow in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
