Alma Hathaway

Alma Jane Hathaway (nee Aylesworth) peacefully passed away on July 30th, 2023 at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Laurie Hathaway for an incredible 70 years. Alma will forever be cherished as the devoted mother of Karen Kennedy, Barry Hathaway, and Anne Dymond. Although predeceased by her son Stephen in 1955, Alma was a doting grandmother to Charlotte, Madison, Adam, and Luke. She also took great joy in being a great grandmother to Barry.

Alma was born to parents Lon and Margaret, and she had two brothers, Keith, and Donald, and a sister named Margaret. She was predeceased by all her siblings and her parents. Alma will be forever remembered for her warm heart and her dedication to volunteering at the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. In honor of Alma’s memory, the family kindly requests donations to the SMGH Foundation or a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.

A private family inurnment will take place at Longwoods Cemetery, Melbourne, following Alma’s cremation. The family is immensely grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at Season’s Retirement Community in Strathroy, as well as Michelle and the staff at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital.

To celebrate Alma’s vibrant and colorful life, an open house will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2023, from 1-3 PM at Elliott Hall, located at 22424 Adelaide Road, Mount Brydges, Ontario. The family kindly asks that attendees wear bright, cheerful colors that reflect Alma’s joyful spirit, as formal and somber attire are unnecessary. Alma held a special fondness for the colors red and fuchsia, and her family would appreciate it if everyone’s clothing choices matched the cheerful tone of the gathering.
