July 25, 2023

Antonio Polifroni, a renowned carpenter, passed away on July 25, 2023, at Extendicare York in Sudbury, Canada due to prostate cancer. Born on February 12, 1944, in Cimina, Reggio Calabria, Italy, Antonio migrated to Sudbury in 1963 and began his career at Cecutti’s Bakery. However, it was his exceptional carpentry skills that made him widely respected in the city. Known for his excellent finishing work in numerous houses and buildings, Antonio was particularly proud of the home he constructed on Southview Dr. for his family. Apart from his craftsmanship, he was also remembered for his love of Italian music, fondly singing along to its melodies.

Antonio is survived by his wife of nearly 54 years, Francesca, along with his daughter Marina Villeneuve, her husband Dave, and their granddaughter Alessandra from North Bay. Additionally, his son Roberto, his wife Nicole, grandson Brixton, and granddaughter Quinn also cherish his memory. Sadly, Antonio was preceded in death by his parents, Rocco and Giuseppa Polifroni. His sisters, Carmela Preteroti (Bruno) and Rosa Galimi (Domenico), both living in Italy, and brother Vincenzo (Ida) also preceded him. Fortunately, Antonio is remembered by surviving siblings Nicola (Francesca), Domenica Leropoli (Antonio), and Phil (Nicole), all of whom reside in Sudbury.

The family would like to express their gratitude towards the exceptional staff at Extendicare York for their unwavering support and care over the years. They also extend a special thank you to Carol, the head nurse on the third floor of Extendicare, for consistently providing assistance and updates. In accordance with Antonio’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service held. His remains will be cremated, and may he find eternal peace. The arrangements have been entrusted to Park Lawn Cremation Services.
