Antonius MATERS

Antonius Hendrikus Maters, lovingly known as Tony, passed away on July 19, 2023, surrounded by his three daughters and a photograph of his beloved wife, Sophia. Born on February 24, 1931, in Nijmegen, Netherlands, Tony was the son of Jan and Maria Maters. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Tony is survived by his daughters Louise (Michael) Bohonos, Mary-Ann (Larry) Eirich, and Dianne (Kevin) Van Drunen, as well as six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews in the Netherlands, and friends on both sides of the ocean. Sadly, his passing comes just four months after losing his lifelong partner, Sophia. Together, they embarked on a remarkable journey, spending over 70 years together and building a life in Canada. Tony was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, Sophia’s siblings, and their spouses, making Tony and Sophia the last of their generation.

The family expresses deep appreciation to the compassionate and dedicated staff of Unit 2-5 at Wascana Rehab. Over the past year, they provided exceptional care, love, and support to Tony, treating him like family. The Regina Home Care team, along with Dr. Liu and Dr. Khan at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, also played vital roles in Tony’s care during his final years.

A Private Service will be held to honor Tony’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre or a charity of choice. Messages of condolence can be shared on paragonfuneralservices.com. Tony will be fondly remembered for his blessings, the life he lived, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
