Attila VARGA

Attila Varga, aged 55, passed away on July 14, 2023, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Rachel Matichak; their three children, Alex, Christian, and Victoria; his dogs Flash and Winston; his mother Veronica; sister Edith (Robert); and his mother-in-law Eleanor Matichak. Attila is deeply missed by his sister-in-law Cynthia, as well as nieces and nephews Rebecca, Sara, Lauren, Tommy, Matthew, and Keith. Preceding Attila in death were his father, Julius Varga, his father-in-law Roman Matichak, and his sister-in-law Frances Matichak.

Attila and Rachel first met in Montreal in 1989 before marrying in 1998. The couple moved to Calgary, where they built their life together and welcomed their three children. Attila worked as a dedicated employee at Shell Canada from 1998 to 2014 before joining Redguard, a prominent US company, in 2015 as Director of Sales for Canada. He continued working for Redguard until his passing and took immense pride and joy in his accomplishments with the company. Additionally, Attila contributed to the family business over the years.

Known for his warm and kind-hearted nature, Attila was a compassionate soul always willing to extend a helping hand. He took immense pride in his children’s achievements, embodying the essence of a devoted family man. Those who had the privilege of knowing Attila deeply miss him and will never forget the impact he made in their lives.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, the hospital Palliative Care unit, and Cochrane Home Care for their exceptional care and support during this difficult time. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Community on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception at Eden Brook Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Attila’s memory to the Pancreatic Cancer of Canada Society.
