Audry LAYTON
Audry O’Neill Layton, aged 91, passed away on October 27, 2023. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Layton, and his daughters, Lou-Ann and Dawn. Audry was also preceded in death by her siblings, Clarence, Mary, and Pauline, as well as two infant sisters, sister-in-law Mary, and her parents James and Agnes O’Neill. She is survived by her niece, Marj Rakanovic, and nephews Jim O’Neill and Dave O’Neill, along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Audry is also survived by Don’s grandsons, Nathan and Dorian Layton, and their families.
Audry had a deep affection for all of her family members, both from her own and Don’s side. She played a significant role in their lives throughout her own life. Even her great nieces and nephews knew and loved her as “Dovy.” Audry was a lifelong member of the CWL and had a generous spirit. She found solace in the support of her friends and neighbors in her final years, which her family greatly appreciated. Special thanks were extended to Mike and Mary Vann, Mary Ann Flemming, Dave and Marilyn Dunn, Gail Cooper, and Anne Cook. Audry will be missed by her dear friends Grace Lemon and Margaret Mitchell, although she was predeceased by her lifelong friend Theresa Bushell.
Audry resided at Oxford Manor for two years, and she expressed her deep gratitude to the staff there for their kindness and care. Their dedication and compassion will always be remembered by her family. The many personal support workers who assisted her, as well as Lisa Hackett, who provided her with care and comfort during the challenging times of the covid lockdown, were also greatly appreciated. Audry also received excellent care during her time at Alexandra Hospital, and the visits from the staff were a source of comfort for her. A special thank you was given to Dale Flemming for his efforts to uplift her spirits.
During the final two years of her life, Audry resided at Fairview Mennonite Home in Cambridge, where she received exceptional care. The caregivers there appreciated her kindness and spirited nature, always showing patience and kindness towards her. Audry’s earthly journey has come to an end, but she will always be remembered with love. As per her request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Church on November 2, 2023, followed by interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Oxford.
