Barbara SHAW

Barbara Jean Mary Shaw (nee Griffin) passed away peacefully at the age of 69 on August 6, 2023, after a brave and prolonged struggle with posterior Cortical Atrophy. She is survived by her adoring husband Jon, with whom she shared 47 blissful years of marriage. Barbara was a cherished mother to her sons Christopher (Jenn) and Carson (Kelly), and a loving grandmother to Dominic, Annaliese, Felix, Teagan, Reid, and Rowan. She was preceded in death by her parents Fred and Margaret Griffin, as well as her brother Ken. Barbara’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her sisters Cathy and Beverly, brothers John, Dave, and Robert (Brenda), and a vast network of friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Throughout her life, Barbara’s unwavering passion for the arts made her a true connoisseur and advocate. Known for her grace and beauty, she dazzled audiences as a ballet dancer. As a dedicated volunteer, Barbara selflessly contributed her time and talent to various organizations, including Ballet Victoria and Victoria Victim Services. She also actively participated in school functions and served on numerous Parent Advisory Committees for her children’s schools. Barbara’s passion for literature knew no bounds, as she amassed an extensive library of books. Her love for reading was complemented by her deep appreciation for films, earning her the reputation of a true movie buff.

Beyond her artistic pursuits, Barbara found joy in exploring the world through travel and immersing herself in various genres of music. However, her greatest pleasures were derived from the company of her cherished friends, with whom she shared many laughter-filled dinners and memorable moments. Jon, her beloved husband, bids her farewell with the words, “Rest in Peace, love of my life.”

A celebration of Barbara’s remarkable life will be announced at a future date, allowing family and friends to gather and commemorate her legacy.
