Bernadette MacLeod peacefully passed away in Calgary, AB on October 27, 2023, at the age of 96. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Peter, her parents, John and Melvina Schimnosky, and all 12 of her siblings. Bernadette is survived by her loving children, Daryl (Barb), Cheryl, and Tracy. She grew up in Leipzig, SK, a farming community. Bernadette graduated from the Holy Family Hospital School of Nursing in Prince Albert, SK, in 1951. Throughout her nursing career, she worked in various locations such as North Battleford, Weyburn, St. Louis, Denton Texas, Fresno, and Assiniboia, where she met and married Peter in 1956. Bernadette dedicated herself to caring for her family after their marriage, taking a break from nursing. She later returned to the profession and worked at the Col. Belcher (Vet) Hospital in Calgary for four years. The family then moved to Regina, SK, where she worked at the General and Plains hospitals for seven years. They continued their journey, living in Kamloops, BC, before returning to Calgary. Bernadette enjoyed her leisure time by engaging in activities like crossword puzzles, bridge, crocheting, baking (which will be greatly missed), and golf, where she even achieved a hole-in-one. During retirement, Bernadette and Peter cherished their travels, particularly their winters in Arizona. A devout Roman Catholic, Bernadette possessed a kind and generous spirit. The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Moneta, the home caregivers, and the staff at Rockyview Hospital. A Funeral Mass will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 14 Street SW, Calgary) on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. In her free time, Bernadette enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge, crocheting, baking (which many will miss), and golf, where she even recorded a hole-in-one. During retirement, she and Peter thoroughly enjoyed their travels and especially cherished their winters in Arizona. During their retirement, Bernadette and Peter embarked on delightful travels and cherished their winters in Arizona.
