Betty AHRENS

Betty Marie Ahrens, a resident of Markdale and formerly of Ayton, passed away on July 15, 2023, at Grey-Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound at the age of 96. Born on October 16, 1927, in Normanby Township to Edgar and Mary Maes, Betty lived life to the fullest and was known for her fun-loving spirit. She had a natural talent for playing music by ear on the piano and harmonica, and she loved music, dancing, and getting dressed up for a night out. Betty enjoyed various activities such as curling, bowling, music jamborees, and snowmobiling. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, always making sure everyone had a good time. She will be deeply missed.

Betty is survived by her children Mary Lou Pfeffer, Deborah (Dale) Schnurr, Janice (Luc) Jacobs, and daughter-in-law Geraldine Ahrens. She was a cherished grandmother to Trevor, Jason, Tricia, Julie, Steven, Scott, Christina, Michael, Bill, Ashley, and Andrew, and a loving great-grandmother to 25 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Betty also had a loving partner, Arley Morran, in Markdale. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, their families, close friends, and Wayne Pfeffer of Ayton. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Louis, son John, grandchildren Cale Jacobs and Robert Schnurr, and siblings Edna Weltz and Herman Maes.

Visitation was held at Mighton Funeral Home in Hanover on July 20, 2023, from 5-8 p.m. A Funeral Service took place at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ayton on July 21, 2023, officiated by Pastor Fred Ludolph. Betty was laid to rest in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Ayton. Memorial donations in her memory were suggested to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Trinity Lutheran Church – Ayton, or a Local Food Bank of choice.
