Bill KAMPHUIS

Prof. Dr. Bill Kamphuis, beloved husband of Nelly Kamphuis, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. Bill was a remarkable man who will be deeply missed by his family, including his daughters, Vicki (Keith) and Melanie (Robin), as well as his own cousins and the extended family on his wife’s side. Throughout his life, Bill demonstrated brilliance, generosity, and love, and his infectious sense of humor brought joy to those around him. He served as a leader and mentor to his family, church community, university students, and the global Coastal Engineering community. Alongside his professional accomplishments, Bill also had a passion for sailing, skiing, playing organ at church, and enjoying music. We will forever hold dear the memories of the wonderful times we shared with Bill.

In September 2020, Bill received a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease. Although his battle with cancer was thankfully brief, it ultimately claimed him. A private burial service will take place on Friday, November 3, with a Visitation scheduled for Saturday, November 4, from 2-4 at James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston). A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Christian Reformed Church (310 Kingscourt Ave, Kingston, ON) on Thursday, November 23, at 11 a.m. In honor of Bill’s memory, donations can be made to the First CRC, specifically directed towards the organ fund, and will be deeply appreciated.

Prof. Dr. Bill Kamphuis, whose full name was Jan Willem Kamphuis, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. He is survived by his loving wife, Nelly Kamphuis, as well as his daughters Vicki (Keith) and Melanie (Robin). Bill’s presence will be greatly missed not only by his immediate family but also by his own cousins and the large extended family on his wife’s side. Bill was known for his brilliance, generosity, and loving nature, all of which were complemented by his vibrant sense of humor. He served as a guiding figure to his family, church, university students, and the global Coastal Engineering community. In addition, Bill indulged in his passions for sailing, skiing, and music, with a particular fondness for playing the organ at church. The memories we shared with Bill will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

Our hearts are filled with sorrow as we announce the departure of Prof. Dr. Bill Kamphuis, also known as Jan Willem Kamphuis, on Monday, October 30, 2023. He left behind a grieving family, including his beloved wife, Nelly Kamphuis, and their daughters Vicki (Keith) and Melanie (Robin). Bill’s impact was not limited to his immediate family, as he was cherished by his own cousins and the extensive family on his wife’s side. An exceptional individual, Bill exuded brilliance, generosity, and love, and his vivacious sense of humor brightened the lives of those who knew him. To his family, church, university students, and the international Coastal Engineering community, Bill was a guiding light and mentor. His love for sailing, skiing, and music, particularly playing the organ at church, remains forever etched in our hearts. As we bid farewell to Bill, we hold dear the priceless moments we shared with him.
