It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the passing of Bill McCourt at the age of 88. On July 31, he peacefully passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family. Bill was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 64 years, Joan, and is survived by his two children, Craig and Kelly, as well as his cherished grandson, Ridge. Bill’s professional journey was marked by remarkable accomplishments, having held esteemed positions such as Senior Vice President at Eatons, Executive Vice President at BC Tel, and President of ICBC. Furthermore, he made an indelible impact on the lives of numerous individuals as Executive in Residence at SFU, where he mentored more than forty CEOs in Vancouver. Bill possessed a unique ability to uplift and inspire others, whether they were neighborhood children, employees, students, or simply cherished family and friends. With great enthusiasm, he celebrated the achievements of those around him and consistently sought to foster personal growth. Bill possessed an insatiable thirst for knowledge, and he delighted in sharing his extensive wisdom with others. Even throughout his later years, residing in a seniors’ home for the past 6.5 years, he continued to contribute to the community by mentoring staff, delivering engaging presentations, and organizing trivia activities. Though he may have departed this earthly realm, Bill will forever reside in the hearts and memories of those he touched. In accordance with his wishes, there will not be a formal service held in his honor.
