Brian Malcolm Smith, beloved husband of Eleanor Smith (Robinson), passed away unexpectedly on August 26, 2023 at RUH in Saskatoon, SK, at the age of 81. He is survived by his devoted wife, two children, Andrew Smith (Taryn) and Lisa Grande (Gord), three granddaughters, Alison Zubot (Brett), Heather Grande (Brandon Morgan), and Taylor Smith, and his cherished great-granddaughter, Chelsea Zubot. Brian was born in Middlesbrough, Yorkshire, England, to Patricia and Cyril Coningsby Smith. In 1965, he married Eleanor Robinson and they established their first home in Stockton-on-Tees. Their family grew with the arrival of their son, Andrew Michael, in 1968, and their daughter, Lisa Marie, in 1971. Moving to Middlesbrough in 1976, they later relocated to Wildwood, Saskatoon in 1981, where they set down roots for over four decades.

Brian’s career began after obtaining his Diploma in Civil and Structural Engineering in 1964. His profession took him across the globe, from Yorkshire, England to Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Forestburg, AB, and ultimately to the potash and uranium mines in Saskatchewan. Throughout his life, Brian developed a passion for soccer (football) and became a National Referee in Canada. He also enjoyed playing cricket, squash, badminton, and golf. Brian eagerly anticipated his weekly games with the Wildwood Golf Course Men’s Section.

Notably, Brian and Eleanor actively participated in the Saskatoon Square Dance Community for 42 years. They relished their shared love of travel, embarking on numerous cruises around the world. Furthermore, they frequently made the journey between Lucky Lake, SK, and Summerland, BC, to visit their children and, most importantly, spend time with their three beloved granddaughters, Alison, Heather, and Taylor. The year 2021 brought immense joy to Brian and Eleanor’s lives as they became proud great-grandparents to Chelsea Elizabeth, who instantly became the light of their lives.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Brian’s life on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The service will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home (210 Wess Road). Messages of condolences can be shared with the family by visiting http://www.hillcrestmemorial.ca.
