Calvin SIMS

Calvin Johnston Sims, aged 83, passed away on July 21, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones at Foothills Hospital. His family announces this sad news with deep sorrow. Calvin, born on January 30, 1940, in Trail, B.C., grew up in Veteran, AB, as the son of Ivan and Lorraine Sims. He was an extraordinary individual who touched the lives of many with his immense kindness and generosity. Calvin would go to great lengths to assist anyone in need, regardless of their familiarity to him.

Throughout his successful career, Calvin thrived as a businessman, predominantly in the construction industry in Edmonton, Calgary, and Phoenix, AZ. He established S&S Homes and played an instrumental role in coordinating and promoting various construction projects during his lifetime. Calvin’s integrity and fairness in his dealings earned him admiration from countless individuals.

Calvin is survived by his son Gavin of Firestone, Colorado, his sister and brother-in-law Janet and Paul Nelson of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and his step-brother Dennis Scheible of Calgary, AB. Additionally, he leaves behind several cherished relatives, including sister-in-law Marjorie Sims, nieces and nephews Heidi (Charlie) Host, Randy (Louise) Sims, Colleen Sims, and Wendy Sims. The family also extends their gratitude to Selena Peloski of Airdrie, AB, and Serg Yurchykov of Calgary, AB, for their unwavering love, support, and enduring friendship that they provided to Calvin throughout the years.

Calvin was preceded in death by his father Ivan (2004), mother Lorraine (1960), and brother Phillip (2017). He was also predeceased by his step-mother Alice Bergen, step-brother Mervin Scheible, and step-sister Dianne Savage. A future celebration of Calvin’s life will be arranged, and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to a charity close to one’s heart, in honor of Calvin’s remarkable legacy of compassion and benevolence.
