Catherine Carter

Catherine Jane Carter, known affectionately as Cathie, peacefully passed away on July 19, 2023, at the age of 82. She is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 57 years, Donald. Cathie is also survived by her two sons, Ian (Chrissie) and Colin (Heather), as well as her cherished grandchildren Nathan, Maddy, Amelia, and Jackson. Additionally, she leaves behind her sister-in-law, Elizabeth McNaughton (Don), and nephews Scott and Robb McNaughton (Harumi, Alisa, Leo, Teo). Cathie’s parents, John and Winnifred Best, and her brother, Michael Best (Patti), preceded her in death.

Throughout her life, Cathie embodied the roles of a devoted wife, loving mother, doting grandmother, and thoughtful aunt. She was an esteemed teacher and dedicated student counsellor who made a positive impact on the lives of many. Cathie was also a loyal friend, always there to lend a listening ear and offer support when needed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Extendicare Kingston south wing for their compassionate care for Cathie during the last four years of her life. They would also like to extend a special thank you to Dr. April Kindrat, whose care and empathy provided solace during Cathie’s final stage.

A celebration of Cathie’s life will be held at the James Reid Funeral Home located at 1900 John Counter Blvd in Kingston. The service will take place on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Help Lesotho.
