Charles Alfred Bartlett, a resident of Belleville ON, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023, after a long illness. Despite the challenges he faced, Charles carried himself with grace and incredible strength. Throughout his entire life, he called Belleville his home, leaving an indelible mark on the community he loved so dearly. From his early years as a mechanic to working at American Optical and Lamwood Cabinets as a talented cabinet maker, Charles was a true “Jack of all Trades.” He later dedicated himself to Belleville General Hospital, where he committed his time and energy until his retirement in his late 50s.
In 1964, Charles married Sharon Gibbs (nee Thompson), the love of his life. He embraced the role of a devoted father without hesitation, raising his three children, Mary, Cathy, and Jim, with unwavering love and support. Beyond his professional achievements, Charles was also an avid outdoorsman who found solace in fishing and hunting. His passion for woodworking knew no bounds, and he delighted in creating toys for children, boats, and duck decoys for family and friends.
Charles experienced his fair share of loss, preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon, as well as his parents Norman and Grace. He also grieved the loss of his grandsons Joseph Del Grosso and Marc Del Grosso, his great-grandson Christopher Gibbs, and great-granddaughter Isabelle Martin. Despite these heartaches, Charles is survived by his children Mary Martin (Bob), Cathy Del Grosso (Gerry), and Jim Gibbs (Teresa). He also leaves behind his brother Art Bartlett (Linda) and their family, as well as his sister Noreen and her family. Charles was a cherished figure in the lives of his loving grandchildren Jason, Michael, Andy, Matthew, Lia, Meaghan, Eric, and Mario. His family further expanded with the presence of 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Charles’ good friend Phil Young also mourns the loss of this remarkable individual.
In honor of Charles’ memory, donations can be made to Quinte Hospice, an institution that provided exceptional care during his final days. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the dedicated staff at Belleville (KGH) Dialysis Clinic for their consistent care over the years. A graveside gathering to celebrate Charles’ life will take place on October 28 at Belleville Cemetery at 12 pm. Following the service, friends and loved ones are invited to gather at the Dugout on 514 Bridge St. East, Belleville from 1-3 pm to share memories and support one another during this difficult time.
