Charles HUTCHISON

Charles George Victor Hutchison, lovingly known as Chuck, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2023, at Woodingford Lodge in Tillsonburg, at the age of 82. Chuck was born and raised in Tillsonburg to his late parents, Charles “Scotty” Hutchison (1963) and Mildred (Dodgson) Hutchison (1987). He was married to the love of his life, Patricia Irene (Smith) Hutchison, for 59 years until her passing in 2020.

Throughout his life, Charles was deeply rooted in Tillsonburg, residing on Victoria Street for 72 years. He was well acquainted with the neighborhood and knew the ins and outs of its people, houses, and his favorite spot, the “gully”. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Charles ventured into entrepreneurship, owning and operating the Texaco station at the corner of Broadway and North Street. Following this, he dedicated 27 years of his life working at Timberjack in Woodstock until his retirement in 1999.

Charles was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch 153 in Tillsonburg and a devoted hockey fan, always eager to support his sons in their games. Additionally, he volunteered his time with the Tillsonburg Maroons hockey club. In his leisure, Charles enjoyed working on cars, tinkering around the house, and ensuring the well-being of the birds, squirrels, and chipmunks in his neighborhood by feeding them.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons and their families: Wayne Hutchison (Jennifer) of Vancouver, Washington, U.S.A., and their children: Sarah, Sidney (Ryan), Tamsen, and Holly; as well as Robert Hutchison (Carrie) of Tillsonburg and their children: Stephanie and Brett. He will be greatly missed by his two great-granddaughters, Ainslee and Mackenny. Charles is also survived by his brother-in-law Glen Esseltine (Barbara) of London and sister-in-law Florence Smith of Tillsonburg.

Honoring his wishes, Charles was cremated, and a private family graveside service will be held in the Delmer Cemetery in the coming days. Those who knew Chuck are invited to share their cherished memories, photos, or offer their personal condolences. Memorial donations can be made to the “Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 153, Poppy Fund” through the Maurice J. Verhoeve Funeral Homes, Tillsonburg (519-842-4238) or online at http://www.verhoevefuneralhomes.com. The family extends their gratitude to the wonderful nurses and PSWs at Woodingford Lodge in Tillsonburg for their compassionate care and kindness throughout the past year.
