Clara Kroeker

Clara Kroeker, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on October 20, 2023, at the age of 97. While we grieve her loss, we also celebrate the richness of her life and her unwavering faith in God. Clara was born on August 13, 1926, to John and Justina Janzen and spent her childhood in the Glenbush area. After moving to Saskatoon in 1945, she met and married Harry Schmidt, with whom she had three children. They enjoyed their summers visiting family in different provinces across Canada. However, their life together was cut short when Harry passed away in 1983.

A year later, Clara found happiness once again when she met and married Benno Kroeker. They embarked on adventures to Arizona, Mexico, and Hawaii, thoroughly enjoying each other’s company. In 1989, they settled into Bethany Manor, where they formed many lasting friendships. Tragically, Benno passed away in 2019, leaving Clara heartbroken yet again.

One of Clara’s greatest joys in life was indulging in her favorite hobbies such as cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting. These leisure activities brought her immense pleasure throughout the years. Clara’s family mourns her loss, including her children Don (Joyce) Schmidt, Ed Schmidt, and Shirley (Gord) Hounjet, as well as her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also fondly remembered by Benno’s daughter Dianne and her family. Clara is survived by her sister Katie Baerg and sister-in-law Helen Janzen, who will greatly miss her presence.

Over the years, Clara made cherished connections with numerous friends at Bethany Manor and Cornerstone Church, where she faithfully attended services since 1950. In April 2023, she moved into Central Haven Nursing Home, receiving compassionate care from dedicated caregivers who brightened her days. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to these caregivers for their exceptional support. Finally, Clara was laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery with the assistance of Martens Warman Funeral Home. To offer condolences, please visit martenswarman.ca. Although Clara is no longer physically with us, her loving spirit will forever remain by our side.

Rest in peace, Clara Kroeker.
