Clayton BARBER

Clayton James “Jim” Barber, of Sparta, passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on September 26, 2023, at the age of 73. Throughout his life, Jim was surrounded by the cherished company of his loved ones, and it was in their presence that he took his final breath. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Rita Barber (Sharkey), and his children Clayton James “Jamie” Barber (Jennifer), Karrie Barber, and Dwayne Barber. Jim also leaves behind a legacy as a cherished grandfather to Christieanna (Adam), Kelsey, Clayton James, and Anderson. His siblings Brenda Peters (Jake), Gail Partlo (late Larry), Dennis Barber, and Chris Barber (Sandy) mourn his loss. Jim was born on January 28, 1950, in St. Thomas to Clayton Davis and Lilian (Atkinson) Barber. Prior to his retirement, Jim worked at Barbers Auto Repair. He had a great passion for the St. Thomas Dragway and car shows.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at Williams Funeral Home, located at 45 Elgin St., St. Thomas, on October 2, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Those who wish to pay their respects may visit on October 1 between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Jim’s remains have been cremated. In honor of his memory, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation.

If desired, contributions can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation, to further their noble causes.
