Cléophas Gautreau

In Moncton, New Brunswick, Cléophas Gautreau peacefully passed away at the age of 94 on November 4th, 2023, at the Dr. Georges-L.-Dumont University Hospital Centre. He was born on June 3rd, 1929, in Pré-d’en-Haut to his parents Adélard Gautreau and Edith Gautreau.

Cléophas attended Université St. Joseph in Memramcook, NB, and worked at the french language newspaper “L’Évangéline” for 32 years. He had a passion for gardening, walking, and was a devoted Montreal Canadiens fan. He spent most Saturday nights watching the game with his beloved wife.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emma Gautreau, and their seven children: Gilles of Rothesay, Josette and her husband Stephen Day, Marc and his wife Janice, Maria and her husband Bobby Spencer, Jean-Guy and his wife Liette Benoit, Francine Gautreau of Ottawa, and Jacques and his wife Nicole. He also leaves behind sixteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four sisters, a sister-in-law, several nieces and nephews, and a special family friend, Lise Doucet.

Cléophas was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother Rita Gautreau, two brothers, and two sisters. Visitation will take place at the Passage-Chartersville Funeral Cooperative in Dieppe, NB, on November 10th, followed by a funeral service.

In memory of Cléophas, donations can be made to The Three Mountain Relay (Moncton Inner City School Breakfast Programs) or Fondation Marichette.ca (A local foundation project that supports low-income women pursuing higher education).
