Cristina Luzmila Mendoza Aragon

Age 95, passed away peacefully in Kanata on May 6, 2024. Cristina was born to Bernardino Mendoza and Rosa Aragon in Ayaviri, Peru. She was the dear sister of Julio Aurelio, the late Roberto and a beloved aunt to her numerous nieces and nephews.

Cristina’s strength and wisdom shone brightly, even as she faced dementia in her later years. Above all, she was a devoted mother to her only son Edgar, a loving mother-in-law to Rafaela and a caring grandmother (abuelita) to Rosemary, Mary and Angelica.

Graduating with a Bachelor’s in Accounting from the Universidad de San Agustin and an Education degree from the Universidad San Antonio de Abad in Peru, Cristina dedicated herself to education, teaching math at Micaela Bastidas High School in Arequipa until her retirement. Her adventurous spirit led her to Canada, where she embraced the challenges of learning new languages and adapting to the cold. Throughout her lifetime she always found so much joy in travelling – exploring Europe, Asia, North, Central and South America. She loved the countryside the most because it reminded her of home. But no matter where she was, family surrounded her, sharing in the simple joys of her dancing, singing Spanish songs, and playing piano and guitar.

Visitation will take place on May 24, 2024 at Kelly Funeral Home, 580 Eagleson Rd in Kanata from 6-8 p.m., followed by a Funeral Service at Holy Redeemer Church on May 25, 2024 at 11 a.m., and burial at Pinecrest Cemetery. We invite you to share your condolences and memories at http://www.kellyfh.ca and donations to the Dementia Society of Ottawa would honour her memory.

Te amaremos por siempre.
