Cynthia Helen Louise Burroughs (nee Huffman) passed away on July 24, 2023, at Norview Lodge in Simcoe. She was a beloved mother to Lori and Jeff Miller of Port Dover and Stephen and Melanie Burroughs of Brantford. Cynthia was also a cherished grandmother to Catherine and Abigael Burroughs. She will be fondly remembered by Adrian, Callum, and Nathan Miller, as well as Tracey and Gerry DeGroote and their family. Cynthia’s husband, William Burroughs, parents Archie and Muriel Huffman, and in-laws Stephen and Polly Burroughs preceded her in death.
In addition, Cynthia was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Clare and Mary Huffman, and Douglas and Lorna Huffman, as well as her brothers and sisters-in-law, Stephen and Margaret Burroughs, and Mary Helen and Omrey Grant. Her nieces and nephews, Janet, Robert, Archie, Patricia, and Glen Huffman, and Alan, Richard, Stuart, and Scott Burroughs, also preceded her in death. Cynthia is survived by her nieces and nephews, whom she adored: David and Barbara Huffman and their family; Helen Tisdale and Lucio Pauli and their family; Kathy and Larry Jull and their family; Bill and Elizabeth Huffman and their family; Nancy Huffman and Karl Hankai and their family; Rick and Kathy Huffman and their family; Marilyn and Larry Martin and their family; and Mark Redenbach. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
Cynthia dedicated 39 years of her life to teaching. She began her career at the Gothic School, where she taught 4 different grades in the same room. She later worked as the Learning Resource Teacher at Teeterville Public School. Cynthia took great pride in being an educator and was thrilled to see many family members follow in her footsteps. She treasured her family and took immense pride in each of them. Her granddaughters brought her immeasurable joy, which sustained her throughout her life. Cynthia had a passion for travel and was always up for an adventure. She never lost her sense of humor and always found a reason to share a good laugh.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff on Willow Walk at Norview for their exceptional care and kindness towards their mother. Cynthia held a deep affection for both her time there and the dedicated staff. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Cynthia’s memory to be made to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
A celebration of Cynthia’s life will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Colborne Village United Church (formerly Old Windham United Church) in Simcoe, Ontario. The visitation with the family will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service, and the internment will be scheduled at a later date in Vanessa Cemetery.
