Daniel MCGUIRE

Daniel Hugh McGuire, born on May 4, 1930, peacefully passed away on August 21, 2023, at the age of 93. He embarked on his next journey while listening to the enchanting voices of his wife Carole and daughter Kelly, who serenaded him with his cherished song, Irish Eyes.

Daniel was the foundation and the heart of his family. After graduating from Osgoode Hall in his twenties, he devoted himself to a career in law for the next six decades. He considered practicing law a privilege and took on clients who were unable to find representation elsewhere, feeling a deep sense of duty to seek justice for them. As a judge, he sought truth and justice by carefully weighing opposing viewpoints.

Above all, family meant everything to Daniel. He loved unconditionally, without judgment or reservation. Although he wholeheartedly gave himself to others, those close to him recognized his unwavering joy, love, and inner strength.

Daniel’s life overflowed with a profound love for music. He rarely left a piano untouched, or a song unsung. From harmonizing at family gatherings to sharing Irish tunes at local pubs, Daniel embraced every opportunity to express his musical passion. His love for music will forever reside in our hearts.

Daniel will be eternally remembered and dearly missed by his loving wife Carole, their children Sheila (Ian), Brian (Tanya), Helen (Ed), Sean (Amanda), and Kelly (Pat). He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nephews, nieces, and countless friends.

A visitation to pay respects to Daniel’s memory will take place at Kelly Funeral Home, located at 2313 Carling Avenue, on Friday, August 25, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., as well as on Saturday, August 26, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Following this, a Funeral Mass will be held in his honor at St. Patrick Basilica, situated at 220 Kent Street, on Friday, September 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Civic Hospital for their exceptional care and dedication. They also express their appreciation to the staff at the Ruddy Shenkman Hospice for providing Daniel with a safe and supportive environment in his final moments, as well as bringing solace to the family throughout the process.
