David “Dave” Barry passed away on August 20, 2023, at the age of 88, at Casselholme. He was preceded in death by his parents, David Andrew and Beatrice Albertha (nee Renolds). Dave was also predeceased by his Sisters Arlie “Jean” Ellis (Arnold) and Ramona Smith (Athol), as well as two of his seven children, Darlene and Kevin.
Dave was a devoted husband and best friend to Isabelle “Belle” (nee Sunstrum). Their love for each other was profound and tender, serving as an inspiration to their entire family. Despite their small stature, they were both giants in their ability to show love and kindness. The couple found joy in traveling together, embarking on road trips to visit loved ones in both Canada and the US. Dave had a great passion for transportation infrastructure, a trait that he shared with loved ones throughout his life.
In addition to his love for transportation, Dave was known for his generosity, avid gardening skills, and exceptional cooking abilities. His famous stir-fry was always a hit at family gatherings. Dave’s sister Shirley Reid (Gary) held a special place in his heart. He also left behind his cherished daughters: Patrice Barry (Christopher Easton), Pat Dufresne, Lorraine McDonald (Moe Albert), Cathy Lafond (Mike), and Anne Emond (Brian). While they mourn his loss, they will forever celebrate the love he bestowed upon them.
Dave had a caring and humorous personality, sometimes displaying endearing grumpiness. He was a patient grandfather to 13 grandchildren, teaching several of them how to drive. Furthermore, he was a beloved great-grandfather to 19 and great-great-grandfather to 3. Following his wishes, his body was cremated, and there will be no service.
