David Gibson

April 19, 1941 – January 27, 2024

David died peacefully at home, as he wished, with his daughters at his side on Saturday, January 27, 2024, aged 82 years. He was predeceased by his wife Ann Gibson (Fournier) in 2005. He is survived by his brothers Bryan, Ross, and Neil Gibson. He (and his quirks) will be sorely missed by his daughters Michelle Gibson (Brian Williams) and Megan Gibson. He was a very proud grandfather to grandsons Conor Williams and Liam Gosselin, both of whom made him laugh, often.

Ever an educator, he will be remembered as a long-time and much loved (and eccentric) history teacher at Pauline Johnson High School in Brantford, ON. After moving to Kingston he derived great enjoyment through being a volunteer patient at Queen’s Health Sciences for many years, helping to train the next generation of health professionals. As he faced health challenges in his later years, any encounter with learners was always an opportunity for him to connect with students, and this brought him joy and comfort, and, inevitably, a moment to teach them something, while learning from them.

His family wishes to extend gratitude to all who cared for him in the last few months at Kingston General Hospital, Hotel Dieu Hospital, and Providence Care Hospital. Dr. Leah Nemiroff and Dr. Amelie Waldin helped him immensely in the last few years. Jan Gilroy’s support and friendship were invaluable gifts during this time. His last few weeks and months were enriched through working with medical students Sophie, Allie, Julia, Vijai, and Bianca, and he felt privileged to get to know them.

As he was “not one for spectacle”, per his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Those wishing to honor his memory can make donations to Interval House, Martha’s Table, or a local food bank. Condolences may be left at http://www.jamesreidfuneralhome.com.
