David Sparks

David Victor Sparks, beloved husband of Donna (McIlveen) Sparks, passed away on September 14, 2023, at Oromocto Public Hospital. He was born on August 24, 1942, in Saint John, New Brunswick, to Melbourne (Bunny) and Verlet Sparks (Gill).

David began his career at NBTel and IBM before pursuing his passion for teaching. He obtained an education degree from UNB and cherished his time working with the staff and children. A people person and sports enthusiast, he coached boys in hockey and baseball and was involved in the management of Devon Minor Baseball. David and Donna enjoyed vacationing in different cities to support their favorite sports teams. He also cherished his time on the golf course with his close buddies. As a father, he took great pride in the achievements of his children as well as those of his grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoyed pursuing interests such as computers, music, art, and dancing.

David is survived by his devoted wife, his children Julie Hynes (Tony) and Todd Sparks (Christa), his brother Melbourne Sparks (Pat), his sister Bonnie Trecartin, three grandchildren – Jack Sparks, Taylor Hynes, and Andrew Sparks, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Melodie Craft.

Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home in Fredericton, NB, on September 22, 2023, from 10-11am, followed by a Celebration of Life with Rev. Ellen Beairsto officiating. The service will also be accessible through the website http://www.yorkfh.com (Link at top of obituary). A reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of New Brunswick, SPCA, or a charity of choice.
