Dmytro James (Jim) Wasylycia, beloved husband of Elsie for 66 years, passed away on July 24, 2023, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his children Garry (Fran), Neal (Wanda), and Tammy (Lyle), as well as his grandchildren Dana (Viktor), Kendra (Jakson), Hayley (Andrew), Hannah, Tyson, and Ashton. Dmytro was born on May 28, 1934, on the family farm near Myrnam, Alberta. He grew up there and operated a small family mixed farming operation until 1966, when he relocated his growing family to Edmonton.

Beyond his responsibilities as a father, Dmytro found solace in gardening, mushroom picking, reading, and playing cards with loved ones. However, his heart always remained connected to the family farm, a cherished homestead quarter earned by his father, Andrew, from Dominion Lands in 1911. It served as his sanctuary, bringing him profound joy and contentment. Known for his introspective nature, Dmytro spoke sparingly but with great depth and substance.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Roozen Family Hospice Center (Pilgrims Hospice) and its dedicated staff and volunteers for their compassionate care and guidance during the final stage of Dmytro’s life.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on August 2, 2023, at the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Ukrainian Catholic Church in Edmonton, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dmytro’s honor to the Pilgrims Hospice Society. Condolences can be sent online through http://www.connelly-mckinley.com.
