Donald “Don” Hacker, a man of unwavering loyalty, hard work, intelligence, and bravery, sadly passed away on May 1, 2023, in Sidney, BC, at the age of 92. He was born on September 12, 1930, in Vancouver, BC. Throughout his life, Don exemplified honor, dedication, and cherished relationships that left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.
As a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Eleanor, Don created a loving and nurturing home for their children, Jeff, Debbie, and Wendy. He approached every endeavor with a sense of purpose and determination, making sure to instill these values in his family as well.
Don’s character and habits were greatly shaped by his 34-year service in the Royal Canadian Air Force. Starting as a 17-year-old airman, he rose through the ranks to achieve the esteemed position of Major. Don’s commitment to his military duties was unwavering, earning him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Beyond his military career, Don had a deep passion for cars and travel. Whether it was the sleek lines of a Ferrari, the exhilaration of Formula One racing, or the thrill of Stock Car Racing, Don’s enthusiasm for these pursuits was infectious and brought joy to those around him.
Don’s legacy is one of love and devotion. He will be deeply missed by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose lives have been enriched by his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support. In remembrance of Don, the family kindly requests contributions to be made to the National Poppy Trust Fund of The Royal Canadian Legion, a cause that held great importance to him.
