Donald William Robert McDonald passed away peacefully at his residence in West Vancouver on October 28, 2023, at the remarkable age of 97. Born on August 6, 1926, in Wayne, Alberta, Donald’s family had immigrated from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. He was the beloved husband of Myrna (now deceased) and is survived by his son, Ross McDonald (Susan). Donald also leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Christian, Sarah Cassidy (married to Cameron Chell), and Hannah (married to Luc Bregg), as well as great-grandchildren Harper, Wyatt, Cash, Waylon, and Frances. In addition, his brother Barry McDonald (married to Jean) mourns his passing.

Donald embarked on an inspiring journey, following the footsteps of his father, who was a respected union miner. Through hard work and an honorable reputation, he gradually climbed the ladder of success and eventually became the owner of Universal Sales and Service. Alongside his professional achievements, Donald dedicated himself selflessly to the Calgary community. He was a long-standing member of the Al Azhar Shrine Club, served as the President of the Calgary Dealers Association, and actively participated in Calgary’s Varsity Acres Presbyterian Church. After years of dedicated service, he was awarded the prestigious title of “life member” of the Calgary Stampede committee.

While Donald embraced his Scottish heritage and enjoyed lively gatherings filled with music, family, and friends, his deepest affections were reserved for his wife Myrna, his son Ross, and his beloved grandchildren. Beyond his devotion to his loved ones, Donald found immense joy and mastery in the art of playing the fiddle. He will always be remembered for his impeccable integrity, boundless generosity, graceful soul, and unwavering courage. Family held a special place in Donald’s heart until his final days, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
