Donna Cameron

Donna Wilmot (Crompton) Cameron passed away on October 30, 2023 in Fredericton, New Brunswick, at the age of 95. Born on March 6, 1928 in St. Stephen, NB, Donna was the cherished only child of William and Addie (Wilmot) Crompton. She was also the devoted wife of the late Kenneth Cameron.

Donna’s passion for music led her to pursue studies at several institutions including Mount Allison University Conservatory, Acadia University Conservatory, New England Conservatory, and the University of New Brunswick. She later utilized her musical talents as a teacher in St. Stephen, Saint John, and Fredericton, NB. Donna’s commitment to church music was evident through her involvement at Christ Church Anglican in St. Stephen, St. Luke’s in Saint John, and St. Peter’s in Fredericton. She also displayed her love for music and drama by participating in various music and drama festivals, as well as engaging in choral work.

A notable figure in the world of education, Donna actively contributed to the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was an original member of the Saint John Chapter, co-founded the Fredericton chapter, and served as president for both the Fredericton Chapter and the Provincial organization. With her dedication to the society, she also took charge of editing the organization’s Provincial News Letter for numerous years. Additionally, Donna was a loyal member of the IODE until her health declined.

In retirement, Donna and her late husband Ken resided in Fredericton while spending summers in their beloved Oak Bay vacation home and traveling extensively during the winter months. Donna leaves behind a daughter, Ellen Cameron, residing in Auckland, NZ, and a grandson, Sean Cameron Widdowson, residing in Queenstown, NZ, and Hong Kong. A memorial service will be held on November 7, 2023, at McAdam’s Funeral Home in Fredericton, NB, with interment at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery following at a later date. The family kindly requests donations to be made in Donna’s name to the Fredericton Community Kitchens Inc. – Student Hunger Program, in lieu of flowers.
