Doreen LALONDE

Doreen Ann Lalonde, a cherished mother, grandmother, and active member of her community, peacefully passed away on September 23, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 15, 1933, in Selkirk, Manitoba, to Mary and Ed Balcaen, and moved to Winnipeg during her childhood.

Doreen embarked on a fulfilling journey that led her to St. Mary’s Academy, where she discovered her passion for nursing. After completing the nursing program at Misericordia Hospital and furthering her studies at the University of Saskatchewan, she became a dedicated Registered Nurse.

On May 4, 1957, Doreen married Roger Lalonde, and the couple raised five children in St. Victor, Saskatchewan. Doreen deeply embraced her Catholic faith and actively participated in her church and community, devoting her time to volunteering.

In 1975, Doreen joined the Family Life Insurance Company as an underwriter before relocating to Calgary, Alberta, where she continued her successful career at Sovereign Life. Additionally, she diligently served on the unemployment insurance board.

Doreen and Roger shared a love for travel, creating cherished memories as they explored various parts of the world, including Europe, the Americas, and Asia. With unwavering faith, grace, humor, and courage, Doreen faced challenges throughout her life.

Doreen is survived by her children Marc, Marilou, Jocelyne, Angele, and Lise, along with her sisters Alice, Marilyn, Marie, Margaret, and Christine. She also leaves behind numerous beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the compassionate nursing staff and care aides at Providence Care Center for their exceptional support and kindness.

A Funeral Mass in celebration of Doreen’s life will take place on October 2 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Calgary, followed by a gathering in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Doreen’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary at https://www.alzheimercalgary.ca/.

May Doreen rest in eternal peace, reunited with her beloved Roger in the loving embrace of the Divine.
