Dorothy Fanjoy

Dorothy Margaret Fanjoy, a resident of Salisbury, peacefully passed away while surrounded by loved ones at Moncton Hospital on Tuesday, August 22nd, 2023. She was born at the Saint John Hospital and grew up as one of eight children. Dorothy’s father, Clarence, mother, Dorothy, and siblings Gary, James (Jimmy), and infant sibling, Jocelyn, preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her in-laws, Lesley Wilkins and Garnet Steeves.

Dorothy began her professional career as a PSW at Jordan Memorial and Spencer Memorial Homes. She later utilized her experience to establish a personal care business, which offered assisted living services to individuals in need. Prior to retiring, Dorothy provided in-home assisted living services to clients of Moncton Community Residences. Her dedication to her work and genuine concern for others was evident throughout her career.

Family meant everything to Dorothy, and she cherished spending time with them. She particularly loved engaging in lively card games, where her competitive spirit shone through. Dorothy had a passion for baking and embraced all things related to Christmas. As a mother, she was a formidable figure when necessary, a patient teacher, and a trusted confidante. She was a stronghold against injustice and a fierce protector. Dorothy gave unwavering love and support to her loved ones, providing an exceptional example of independence and strength. To her friends and siblings, she was a reliable source of truth and sage advice. Her grandchildren adored her, as she delighted in showering them with affection and sweetness from her “sugar factory.”

Dorothy found joy in dining out at her favorite restaurants, relishing the opportunity to share meals with her loved ones and friends. She also enjoyed traveling and embarking on drives in the midst of snowstorms. Dorothy had a fondness for juicy secrets, even though keeping them proved challenging, and she found solace in a good book. She was truly one-of-a-kind, a cherished friend, and a mother whose presence was truly cherished and irreplaceable. Dorothy will be deeply missed.

Dorothy leaves behind her loving sons: Anthony (Susan) Reeder, Christopher (Blaine) Reeder, Mike (Hubert) Reeder, Tom Reeder, and David Fanjoy Jr. She is also survived by her brothers: Allan, Dave, and Danny Gogan, her sisters: Rhea Wilkins and Donna Steeves, as well as her grandchildren: Christopher Reeder, Michael Reeder Jr (Ashley), Kathryn Spears (Josh), Ryan Reeder, Terra Reeder, Whitney Reeder, Dustin Reeder, Samantha Reeder (Amin), Chelsea Reeder (Kevin), Scott Reeder (Mikeala), Matthew Boucher, Emily Boucher, and her 12 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Salisbury Funeral Home, where visitation will be held on Friday, August 25th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A Funeral celebrating Dorothy’s remarkable life will be conducted on Saturday, August 26th at 11:00am, followed by the Interment at Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
