Douglas LYCETT

Douglas Lycett, a beloved figure, passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023, at the age of 96. Born in London, England in 1927, Doug will always hold a special place in the hearts of his nephew Edward and great-niece Beth Dobson, along with her husband Ian Kelly. The loss of his brothers John and Bill (Pauleen) before him leaves behind a void that cannot be filled. Doug dedicated 21 years of his life as an employee at York University, leaving a lasting impact on the community he served. For many years, Doug called Don Mills in Toronto his home, but he also cherished his retirement in Bath. Friends and family alike will forever remember him as “the smiling, laughing Englishman.”

To honor Doug’s memory, friends are invited to pay their respects at the Township Chapel of Gordon F. Tompkins Funeral Homes, located at 435 Davis Drive, Kingston, ON, on Saturday, August 26. The visitation hours will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Following the visitation, a Funeral Service will take place in the chapel at 1:00 p.m. Doug will be cremated after the service, with a private family interment held at a later time. Fond memories and heartfelt messages can be shared at http://www.GFTompkins-Township.ca.

As we bid farewell to Doug, the profound impact he had on numerous friends and family members can never be overstated. His infectious smile and hearty laughter earned him the endearing title of “the smiling, laughing Englishman.” He will forever be remembered and deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
