Douglas Richards

Douglas Lloyd Richards, known as Doug, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023, in London, Ontario surrounded by his loved ones. Born on December 5, 1937, in Toronto, Ontario, Doug’s zest for life and pursuit of knowledge had a profound impact on the world. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathleen, his brother Ted, his three children, Corinne, Jai, and Ian, and his grandchildren Timothy, Mason, Carter, Rylan, Daxton, and Alice. Doug’s parents, Lloyd and Inez, and his sister Margaret, predeceased him.

From an early age, Doug’s passion for learning was evident. He pursued Electrical Engineering at Queen’s University, and his dedication and innovative drive played a vital role in the electrification of Saskatchewan. Always seeking to expand his knowledge, Doug taught himself computer programming to keep pace with technological advancements.

While Doug excelled in science and technology, he also had a deep appreciation for the arts. His interests spanned the realms of music, theatre, symphony concerts, and opera productions. As an avid lover of classical music, he would immerse himself in its melodies and harmonies. In addition to being a connoisseur, Doug himself was a talented musician, playing the trombone and piano. He approached life with boundless curiosity, spending quality time with his family, pursuing stargazing, and exploring the wonders of the world.

Doug’s legacy is a testament to the power of kindness, curiosity, and living a life guided by love and compassion. His remarkable intelligence and creativity were matched only by his boundless generosity and ability to make everyone around him feel special. Even as we mourn his loss, let us remember and celebrate the extraordinary life Doug lived. His indomitable spirit will continue to inspire us all.

Visitation services for Doug will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2023, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., as well as on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. The Memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m., and a reception will take place at the Brock and Visser Funeral Home in Woodstock, Ontario. The service will be livestreamed and recorded for later viewing at https://www.brockandvisser.com/woodstock. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Doug’s memory to Moon Time Sisters (True North Aid), Canadian Cancer Society, Heart & Stroke Foundation, St. David’s United Church, West Hill United Church, or a charity of choice.
