Edward Harold Stanley Haylock, aged 84, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Eagle Ridge Hospital after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, surrounded by his loving family and close friends. He was a devoted father to his two sons, Lyle and Lorne, and cherished the time spent with his grandson, Brodie. Ed was known for his skilled craftsmanship and intelligence, excelling as a carpenter, home builder, stone mason, and aircraft mechanic. He also held a pilot’s license and once owned a small Cessna airplane.
In his earlier years, Ed worked as a helicopter mechanic for Okanagan Helicopters in the Canadian Arctic before moving on to CP Air, which later became Air Canada, where he continued his career as an aircraft mechanic and eventually a Chief Engineer. After retiring in 1995, Ed fulfilled his dream of living in the mountain community of Whistler, where he spent his winters skiing and his summers working alongside his son Lyle in his construction company. In 2017, he sold his home in Whistler and moved back to Coquitlam, where he lived with his oldest son and family, spending his remaining years making custom electric guitars with his son Lorne.
Ed was predeceased by his parents, Harold and Beulah Haylock, and his sister Janice. He is survived by his children, Lyle (Wendy) and Lorne (Ami), his grandson Brodie, his sister Audrey, and many other family and dear friends. Ed will be greatly missed by his loved ones, and the family expressed gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Eagle Ridge Hospital for their support and care during his final days.
In accordance with Ed’s wishes, there will be no Memorial Service. He will be dearly missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
