MILLS, Edward “Bill”
1926 – 2023

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward “Bill” Mills on August 27, 2023. Born in Colonsay in 1926, Bill’s childhood was marked by being raised in an orphanage. However, he maintained a strong bond with his grandfather and siblings, Norm and May. At the young age of 14, Bill began working as a telegraph boy and later pursued a career as an operator for the CNR. In 1943, he joined the Navy, bravely serving his country during World War II. After the war, Bill completed his education, graduated from high school, and enrolled in the U of S Commerce program. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Beth, whom he married in 1949. Together, with only $10 to their name, they relocated to Churchill, where Bill worked as a wire chief. Eventually, they settled in Melville, where they raised their two daughters, Barb and Brenda. Bill actively participated in his community, serving on the City Council, the hospital board, the K of C, and the Catholic School Board. Following his retirement, Bill and Beth moved to Saskatoon, where Bill formed profound friendships with a group of mall walkers and fellow CN pensioners. The untimely loss of Beth in 1999 was a devastating blow for Bill, but he faced this adversity with unwavering courage. At the age of 75, Bill celebrated his first birthday party and continued to enjoy these festivities every year thereafter, surrounded by his loving family and countless friends. He actively played a role in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, leaving a lasting legacy of love, faith, determination, integrity, and a thirst for knowledge. Bill is survived by his daughters, Barb (Cam Wotherspoon) and Brenda, his adored grandchildren, Pamela (Dave Buttinger), Chad (Megan Tokaruk), and Elizabeth (Taylor Cowley), as well as Jesse Lambert, Dakota Lambert, and his great-grandchildren, Emmarae, Jade, Olivia Buttinger, and Everly Cowley. Bill’s final farewell will take place on Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Holy Spirit Parish in Saskatoon. A lunch and program will be held at 12 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 1:30 p.m. The family would appreciate memories and condolences, which can be shared by visiting the website http://www.acadiamckaguesfuneralchapel.com
