Elizabeth Campbell

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Elizabeth “Liz” Anne Campbell, our beloved mother. On Sunday, September 17, 2023, while visiting her son in Stratford, ON, Liz, born on December 26, 1935, in Point Tupper, NS to Francis and Annie Forbrigger, left us.

Liz, affectionately known as Betty by her five siblings, pursued a nursing career in Glace Bay, NS, before embarking on a new chapter in Montreal during her twenties. Driven by a thirst for adventure and an eagerness to explore Europe, she joined the Canadian Armed Forces. It was during her time stationed in Germany that she met our father and subsequently married him.

As a military spouse, Liz experienced two postings in Germany and relocated numerous times across Canada before eventually settling in Fredericton. Following many years as an allergy nurse, she transitioned from hypodermic needles to sewing and knitting needles. Liz operated the Singer Sewing Centre and Yarns On York for two decades, sharing her skills and knowledge with the people of Fredericton. Remarkably, at the age of 62, Liz even became a certified sewing machine repairwoman.

Liz actively participated in her community, actively engaging in activities within St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, the CWL, and serving as the treasurer at Birthright for several years. A passionate music lover, Liz dedicated her time as a longstanding member of The Elm City Echoes and the barbershop quartet, Four Crying Out Loud.

Liz was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her daughter, Amy. Left to cherish her memory are her son, David (wife Penelope Schledewitz), her daughter, Trish (husband John Heinstein), her grandson, Pearce Heinstein, and her great-granddaughter, Arcane Heinstein, who brought immeasurable joy to her life. In addition, she will be dearly missed by her siblings, Francis Forbrigger (Helen), James Malcolm (Sherry, dec), Rose Begg (Doug), Anne Murphy (Paul, dec), Tricia Morrison (Adrian), as well as her 21 nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, located at 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, on Monday, October 16, 2023. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 11 am. Liz will be laid to rest in St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making donations to The Greener Village, NB Public Libraries, or The Truth and Reconciliation Fund. Please extend your personal condolences through York Funeral Home’s website, accessible at http://www.yorkfh.com.
