Elwood Murray

Elwood James Murray, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, peacefully passed away at the age of 96 on October 25, 2023. He will forever be remembered for his passion for curling and his dedicated service to others as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Elwood’s impact on those who knew him will continue to resonate in their hearts.

Sadly, Elwood was preceded in death by his first wife Irene (nee Villeneuve) and one of their twin daughters, also named Irene, who tragically passed away just six days after birth. He is survived by his second wife, Colleen (nee Warner), who faithfully stood by his side for 53 years and provided unwavering support throughout their life journey. Colleen mourns the loss of a devoted husband and an incredible partner.

Elwood’s legacy lives on through his daughter, Colleen Sloan, who cherishes the memories of her father in her heart. Within this sanctuary resides the love she holds for her late mother and sister. Additionally, Elwood is survived by his two grandchildren, Curtis and Tyler Sloan, who warmly recall the wisdom, laughter, and the simple joys of life that their grandfather bestowed upon them.

Elwood’s memory will forever be cherished by his siblings Eleanor Taylor, Erma Avon (George), Elaine Tucker, and Cecil (Gillian). Their bond as a family remains strong, ensuring that Elwood’s spirit lives on.

A Funeral Mass in honor of Elwood will be held on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Ottawa. The service will commence at 11 a.m., followed by a reception. His final resting place will be at Capital Memorial Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elwood’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society.
