Eric Shewan

Eric Alexander Shewan, a retired Senior Constable of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), passed away at the age of 85 on August 12, 2023. Throughout his career, he served at various locations including Bruce Mines, St. Joseph Island, Thessalon, Moosonee, and Kemptville. Eric sadly left behind his wife of 40 years, Loreen (Lalonde), who preceded him in death. He also mourned the loss of his father, Laurence Shewan, his mother, Grace Eleanor Shewan (Anderson), as well as his sisters Elizabeth (Shewan) Hodge and Ruth (Shewan) Coon. Additionally, he was predeceased by his brothers Jim Shewan, Duff (Gowan) Shewan, and David during infancy.

Eric is survived by his daughter Laurie (Gary Upton) from Nova Scotia and his son Robert (Sandra Robinson) from Sault Ste. Marie, ON. His memory lives on through his brother Tom (Wanda) from Brockville and Barbara Mattock from Toronto, ON. He also left behind his beloved granddaughter Erika and his grandson Jake, both residing in Kemptville, ON. Eric had numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, cousins, as well as aunts and uncles. Among his close friends were Lori Stewart, Phillip (Flipper) Kielburger, and Eduardo deDiego(Ed). Following his request, cremation services were arranged by the Kemptville Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home. Eric’s wishes were for no service or memorial to be held, but contributions in his memory can be made to a charity of choice.

Eric’s heartache was deepened further by the loss of his father, Laurence Shewan, his mother, Grace Eleanor Shewan (Anderson), as well as his sisters Elizabeth (Shewan) Hodge and Ruth (Shewan) Coon. In addition, he mourned the untimely passing of his brothers Jim Shewan and Duff (Gowan) Shewan, as well as his brother David during infancy.

Eric shared strong bonds with his best friends Lori Stewart, Phillip (Flipper) Kielburger, and Eduardo deDiego(Ed). In accordance with his wishes, Eric was privately cremated at the Kemptville Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry Funeral Home. A simple yet heartfelt farewell was preferred, without an organized service or memorial. Those inclined to make a gesture in his memory are welcome to contribute to a charity of their choosing.
