Erica Ruth Prescesky

PRESCESKY, Erica Ruth (nee Mitchell)

July 16, 1930 – March 13, 2024

Erica’s wish to see out the rest of her days, at her home overlooking Mount Royal in downtown Montreal, came to pass and is now reunited with her dear husband Peter Eric Prescesky and her youngest child Douglas.

Born in Ottawa Ontario, Erica attended Glebe Collegiate High School and then McGill University where she met her husband, Peter Prescesky. The couple married that very same year in 1949 in Moncton, NB and went on to raise nine children.

Erica was the daughter of the late G. Wellington Mitchell and Mildred (Best) Mitchell. She is survived by her sister Janet Holgate and also survived by her eight children: Michael (Madeline) of Honolulu, Hawaii; Stephen (Diane) of Moncton, N.B.; Pamela (Grant) Stonehouse of Halifax, N.S.; John of Halifax, N.S.; Nancy Irvine of Hantsport, N.S.; Andrew (Henda) of Montreal, Q.C.; Jill (Wayne) of Montreal, Q.C.; Elizabeth of Montreal, Q.C.; and is predeceased by her youngest son, Stewart Douglas, of Montreal Q.C., her brother David Best Mitchell and her daughter Nancy Irvine’s dear husband Douglas.

Erica attended Saint Peters Anglican Church in Town of Mount Royal on a regular basis and did her best to impart spirituality into the lives of all her children.

Her young family was also raised in TMR – on Normandy Drive and Markham Road respectively and Erica had a hand in the construction of the latter (which needed to be built to house their growing family).

Erica possessed all the organizational skill required to raise such a large family and demonstrated a flare for decorating the various homes she lived in.

During the 1950s, 60s and 70s, summers were spent at the family’s summer home in a rustic resort community overlooking the Annapolis Basin and the Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia.

Once the children were older, Erica moved to Bermuda with her husband Peter and lived there for 10 years before returning to Montreal in 1983 where she lived ever since.

“Mom’s place” in downtown Montreal – at Le Chateau in the shadows of Mount Royal – was a central hub for family dinners and a great place for her (9) kids, (17) grandchildren, and (14) great grandchildren to gather and visit with their Nana.

In her later years, Erica’s daughters, Pamela, Nancy, Jill and Elisabeth did a great job of ensuring that Erica was surrounded with the best care and attention possible and that all her day-to-day needs were met as well.

An avid reader, Erica lived out the rest of her life as she wanted in the comfort of her own home.

Special thanks to Violi Fabros, Justin, Brenda, Pearl and Leony – all of whom provided a high level of care.

The visitation and Chapel Service will be held at Collins Clarke Funeral Home, 5610 Sherbrooke St. West in NDG, Friday March 22nd, from 3-6 PM and Saturday March 23rd at 2 PM respectively.
