Eugene SWEJDA
Eugene Robert Swejda, lovingly known as Gene, peacefully passed away at home on September 28, 2023, with his loved ones by his side. He was 76 years old. Gene was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1946, to Andrew and Agnes Swejda. He was the youngest of four boys, with his brothers Joe, Don, and Andy. Growing up on the family farm near Yarbo, SK, Gene experienced a childhood filled with love, hard work, and music. Eventually, the family moved to Esterhazy, where he graduated and embarked on a lifelong career in mining with IMC. It was during this time that Gene met the love of his life, Linda Hahn, and the couple exchanged vows on October 10, 1969.
After their wedding, Gene and Linda settled in Saskatoon and began building their life together. They were blessed with three children: Michael, Tania, and Amber. Gene built their first home on Klaehn Cr, where they created cherished memories and fostered lasting friendships. Their next chapter led them to Delisle, where Gene built a beautiful home and continued to raise their children with immense love and joy. Throughout the years, Gene and Linda formed lifelong friendships and hosted numerous celebrations. In 2000, they returned to Saskatoon and made another beautiful home.
Gene dedicated over 40 years to a successful mining career, retiring as the Instrumentation and Electrical Supervisor at Nutrien (Cory Potash Mine). Known for his fairness, Gene always stood up for his crew and took pride in being a reliable supervisor. His partnership with Linda was unwavering, as they were inseparable and enjoyed each other’s company. They relished simple pleasures such as having drinks on a patio or embarking on adventures to favorite destinations like Palm Springs.
Above all, Gene adored his seven grandsons, who brought immeasurable happiness into his life. He cherished every moment spent with them, serenading them with his guitar, attending concerts and sports games, and sharing his wisdom. Gene’s knack for storytelling provided his loved ones with wonderful memories. He even had the opportunity to meet his great-grandson, of whom he was enormously proud.
Gene, you fought with unparalleled strength. Your determination was fueled by your love for us, allowing us to create lasting memories together. You will forever be remembered and deeply missed by your beloved wife and best friend, Linda, as well as your children: Michael (Tamara) and their children Emmett, Ronan, Euan (Mother Gail), Cohen, and Ethan; Tania (Shawn) Williams and their children Noah, Leo, and Caleb; and Amber (Shawn) Ly and their children Kian and Reid. Gene is also survived by his brothers Joe (Agnes) Swejda and Don (Marge) Swejda, sister-in-law Helen Swejda, brother-in-law Grant (Sandy) Hahn, sisters-in-law Judy Schofer and Bonnie Cenaiko, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In honor of Gene’s memory, we invite you to bask in the warmth of the sun, enjoy a refreshing beer, and listen to his favorite song, “Storms Never Last” by Willie. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Saskatoon, followed by the Rite of Committal at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anne’s Parish. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Travis Minor – Mourning Glory Funeral Services.
