Evelyn Paula Chemerys, a cherished auntie, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2023, at the age of 91, just three days before her 92nd birthday. Born on July 22, 1931, in Bellis, Alberta, Evelyn was the sixth of seven children raised on her family’s farm. She left the farm at a young age to pursue her education, attending the Alberta Business College in Edmonton in 1951. Shortly after, she began her professional journey, working for the Consolidated Gold Mining and Smelting Company Ltd in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. In 1958, Evelyn moved to Calgary, where she embarked on her lengthy career as a Legal Secretary, earning a respected reputation for her expertise, excellent typing, and dictation skills.

Evelyn Paula Chemerys will forever be remembered by her adored nieces, nephews, and cousins. A unique and beloved auntie, she was known for her fun-loving nature, generous spirit, and ability to captivate any social gathering with her lively conversations. Evelyn was a strong and compassionate individual who never shied away from forging her own path. She was an independent and free-spirited person who remained true to herself, once stating, “I am my own person.” Her jovial presence and infectious laughter will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Throughout her life, Evelyn continued to indulge in her passions, including traveling, reading, classical music, and opera. She had an impeccable taste for fine food, fashion, wine, and scotch. In addition to her love for Scrabble and a zest for arts and culture, Evelyn genuinely enjoyed the company of others and was a welcoming hostess. She held a deep affection for her mother, referring to her as her best friend, spending holidays and summers in Smoky Lake, Alberta, close to her roots. Sadly, in her late 80s, Evelyn developed Alzheimer’s disease and was unable to care for herself, leading her to reside in the Seton AgeCare assisted living facility in Calgary. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff for their attentive and compassionate care.

An interment service to honor Evelyn Paula Chemerys will be held at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Edmonton, Alberta, at a later date. In memory of Evelyn and instead of floral tributes, the family kindly requests donations to a charity of one’s choice. As Evelyn would say, “Cheers!” Photos, memories, and condolences can be shared with the family through [insert website link].
