Gary is survived by his devoted soulmate of more than five decades, June, as well as his loving children Jason (Charity) and Andrew (Meredith), both residing in the Halifax area. He was also a proud grandparent to Grant, Nathan, Sidney, Aidan, and Spencer. Gary is also remembered by his sister Beverley Black (Wayne), sister-in-law Betty Buchanan, nieces, and a nephew. His brother, Robert (Bob) Buchanan, preceded him in death.

Gary’s impressive educational journey began with his graduation from Moncton High School. He pursued higher education at UNB, where he obtained his BA and BBA degrees. Throughout his professional life, Gary dedicated himself to health care administration. His career led him from New Brunswick to Alberta, then to Manitoba, and eventually back to his home province. He joined Jordan Lifecare Centre as the Administrator and served as a hospital accreditation surveyor for over two decades. Gary’s commitment extended beyond his individual roles, as he also contributed his expertise to various boards, including ARA Moncton, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Canadian College of Health Leaders.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Gary found fulfillment in teaching. He shared his knowledge and passion as a Queen Scout, Cub leader, and instructor of commerce courses at Mount Allison University and the Community College in Manitoba. Among his cherished pastimes, Gary delighted in being with his family, as well as his beloved companion Mandy. He enjoyed the serenity of his cottage in Pointe-du-ChĂȘne, engaging in boating activities, and regularly taking refreshing dips in the bay.

In accordance with Gary’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at Fair Haven Cemetery on August 8th, 2023, at 11 am, with a reception following in the Fair Haven Garden View Reception Room.
