Gary William Gair, age 80, passed away on September 27, 2023, at the Vulcan Community Health Center. He was born on November 26, 1942, in Burns Lake, British Columbia to Bill and Lillian Gair. Throughout his childhood, he relocated to several places in British Columbia, including Prince Rupert, Terrace, Surrey, and Creston, where he completed his high school education.

During his time in high school, Gary began working at a local tire shop. After graduating, he was entrusted with managing an expansion shop in Cranbrook, which eventually led him to establish his own store in Vulcan. For 20 years, he operated this store until 1988 when he ventured into a new business opportunity in Kelowna, British Columbia. However, driven by the desire to be close to his family and friends, he returned to Vulcan a few years later. Throughout his career, Gary held various jobs, spending his last 14 years as a gravel truck driver for the County.

Alongside his work, Gary derived joy from indulging in a range of hobbies. Snowmobiling, motorcycle riding, boating, skiing, camping, and golfing were just a few of his interests. Nevertheless, flying his own plane brought him particular pleasure. In more recent times, he found immense happiness in watching his grandchildren partake in their various activities, often from the “grandparent section” at the local arena. When not occupied with work or projects, he could often be found socializing with his friends at the A&W or Gerry’s, or embarking on camping trips with his partner, Julie.

Gary is survived by his partner, Julie Anderson, his brother, Doug Gair, his sons Kevin Murray, Lorne Gair, and Randy Gair (Lori), as well as his grandchildren Adam, Isaac, and Nora Gair, in addition to nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Margo (Snow) Gair.

A memorial service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held at the Vulcan United Church on October 3, 2023, at 2pm. For those who wish to honor his memory, donations can be made to the Vulcan Healthcare Auxiliary at Box 299, Vulcan, AB T0L 2B0, or through an e-transfer to vhcaux@hotmail.com, in lieu of flowers.
