Gary Wayne Wood, a highly respected Deputy Fire Chief for Delta Fire Department, took his last breath on August 4th, 2023, succumbing to lung cancer. After an illustrious career spanning 32 years, Gary retired and left an indelible mark on his colleagues and the community he served. He leaves behind cherished memories that will forever be treasured, as his absence is deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gary’s lifetime was intertwined with both joy and sorrow. He encountered heartbreaking losses as he bid farewell to his father Bruce, mother Claire, brother Dave, and sister Kathy who preceded him in death. However, his legacy persists through the relationships he cultivated throughout his life. His love for his dear wife Katherine and his unbreakable bond with his siblings Bruce (Donna) and Bill (Tina) remained steadfast till the end. Moreover, his extended family included his children Jason (Samantha), Margo, Dana, Kelly, Kimberly, and Cameron, who will forever hold their father’s memory close to their hearts. Additionally, Gary’s descendants, including his grandchildren Chase, Rylee, Cole, Ethan, Landon, Ailey, and Cruz, as well as his step-children Peter, Kassandra, and Christian, will carry his spirit forward.

To honor Gary’s remarkable life and commemorate his impact on others, a service will be held at 2 pm on August 23, 2023, at Sunbury Hall in Delta BC. As friends, family, and colleagues of Gary come together to bid him farewell, they will undoubtedly celebrate the legacy of an exceptional man who dedicated his life to serving and protecting his community. Though his physical presence may have ended, his memory and the mark he left behind will forever endure in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
