Gayle Iris Lundy

Gayle Iris Lundy (nee Forsyth), a resident of Victoria, BC, passed away on July 30, 2023, surrounded by her family after bravely battling cancer. Her loved ones are devastated by the loss of their cherished wife and mother, a pillar of their family. Gayle leaves behind a loving husband, Locksley, and their children: Brenda (David) Smith, Collette (David) Williams, Michelle (Nick Baggs), Darin (Anna), and Jacqueline Rimmer. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Gayle was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Iris, as well as several other family members. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and close friends in New Zealand and Canada.

Gayle’s life journey began in Winnipeg, where she grew up on a farm in Anola. Later, her family relocated to Eriksdale, where she attended school and actively participated in sports and 4H. In 1956, they moved to White Dog Falls, where Gayle met the love of her life, Locksley. Theirs was a love story that spanned 65 years, with a deep connection formed from the moment they laid eyes on each other. They tied the knot in Winnipeg on October 11, 1958. In 1959, they moved to Saskatoon, where they started their family and raised six children in the Brevoort Park area. Gayle worked at Sears during this time and developed lifelong friendships. The family enjoyed spending time at their cabin in Candle Lake, creating special memories and forming cherished friendships. In 1988, they relocated to Victoria, where Gayle worked for a few more years before enjoying retirement.

Gayle was a compassionate woman who touched the lives of everyone who crossed her path. She was known for her hospitality, always opening her home to host last-minute gatherings. With an array of talents, Gayle was a master gardener, exceptional cook, skilled crafter, pottery enthusiast, talented painter, and accomplished seamstress. She also enjoyed leisure activities such as golf, curling, and bowling. Together with Locksley, Gayle embarked on numerous travel adventures across Canada, the United States, and New Zealand.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 30, 2023, from 11:30-2:30 pm at St. Paul’s United Church in Sidney, BC. Private interment will follow at Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria. Gayle will forever be remembered for her kindness, love, and numerous contributions to her family, friends, and community. Her legacy will continue to inspire and bring comfort to those who were fortunate enough to know her.
