Gina is survived by her husband of 32 years, Jerry, and their children Coleton (Courtney) Smith, Landon (Shawna) Smith, Maddison (Brendan Schneider), and Pierson (Leah Brown). She was also a cherished grandmother to Nora. Gina was the daughter of John and Pauline Scrimgeour and the daughter-in-law of Gary and Barbara Smith. She is also remembered by her siblings, brother-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.
Gina’s love for her family was unwavering. She enjoyed spending time with her children and granddaughter in the backyard. She also cherished visits to her parents’ home, where she built many beautiful memories. Gina’s friends were an important part of her life, and she always had an open-door policy on her front porch. Many quick chats turned into evenings on the back deck, filled with music and laughter. Gina had a vibrant energy that she shared with her community. She was actively involved in local sports as a player, coach, and mentor. Her dedication to her own children and their sports activities was unmatched. Gina’s family, friends, and community will deeply miss her vibrant presence.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Grand River Hospital for their compassionate care during Gina’s treatment and to the staff at Stratford General Hospital for their exceptional care, warmth, and kindness in her final week. Gina also treasured her role as the Community Outreach Manager at Knollcrest Lodge, where she formed lasting friendships and found joy in her work. A celebration of Gina’s life will be held at the Perth East Recreation Complex in Milverton on July 15, 2023, from 1-5 p.m.
