Grant McLaren

A. Grant McLaren passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon, July 29, 2023. He was 88 years old and was just days away from celebrating his 89th birthday on August 7, 2023. Grant was reunited with his beloved wife Marilyn (nee Clyde), who sadly left this world in 2015. Grant was a loving father to Faith (Greg), Ian (late Debbie), Alan (Elzbieta), and Douglas (Ana). He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren Melissa, Kristin, Jeffrey, Emily, Ashley, James, and Sami, as well as his great-granddaughter Aralyn. Grant was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin P. and Amy S. McLaren, his sister Marjorie (King), brothers David and Ian, as well as his granddaughters Amy and Laura.

Grant’s professional journey took him through various endeavors. He spent 20 years at the City of Nepean Finance Department and previously worked in start-up firms during the emergence of Ottawa’s communications technology sector. Grant began his working career at the Bank of Nova Scotia, Lanark Village Branch, at the age of 15. Later, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Ontario Department of Highways. Grant’s dedication to work stemmed from the need to support his family after his father’s passing.

Not only was Grant a hard worker, but he was also known for his gentlemanly nature, keen observation skills, kind soul, and well-developed small-town humor. He took great pride in his family’s history in the Lanark area. Grant’s humble and honest disposition made him a source of advice for many, and he inspired his children to be the best spouses and parents they could be. His legacy will live on through his family. Grant will be profoundly missed by his children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at Robertson House and Champlain LHIN for their unwavering support during Grant’s battle with dementia over the past five years. They displayed immense dedication despite facing significant challenges along the way.

A private family service will be held to honor Grant’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Alzheimer Society, Bruyere Memory Care, or a charity of your choice. Online condolences can be shared at http://www.colefuneralservices.com.
