Grant NEVILLE

Reverend Grant Reginald Neville, affectionately known as “Tanny,” passed away peacefully at the Pembroke Regional Hospital on Friday, July 28, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family and received the Sacraments of the Church in his 82nd year and 55th year of priesthood. Grant was born on March 8, 1942, in Pembroke to his parents, the late Harry and Lila Neville (nee Clouthier). He was a devoted brother to Harry Jr. (the late Fay) Neville, the late Harriett (Roland) Gagnon, Lorne (the late Theresa) Neville, Lianne (Bruce) Clark, Maureen (Billy) Belland, Kathy (Dave) Neville, and Paul Neville. Grant will be deeply missed by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a great-great-niece.

Grant’s strong connection to the Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Pembroke influenced his path to priesthood. He pursued his education and responded to his calling within the embrace of his family’s participation in the parish. Grant completed his formation and studies at Resurrection College in Kitchener and St. Augustine Seminary in Toronto. On May 24, 1969, he was ordained to the priesthood. Throughout his ministry, Grant served as an assistant priest in various parishes, including Bancroft, Haliburton, Arnprior, and Deep River. He later became the pastor of St. Ann’s Parish in Cormac, Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Brudenell, Holy Canadian Martyrs Parish in Combermere, St. Francis de Sales Mission in Latchford Bridge, and St. Andrew’s Parish in Killaloe. Additionally, Grant served as a chaplain at Bishop Smith Catholic High School in Pembroke. He was also actively involved in the Flying Father’s Hockey Team for 25 years. Grant retired from parish ministry in 2014.

The Rite of Reception for Reverend Neville will take place at the Church of the Most Holy Name of Jesus in Pembroke on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will continue until 8:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be officiated by the Most Reverend Guy Desrochers, C.Ss.R., at the same church on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, the Rite of Committal will follow at the family plot in St. Columba’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Big Brothers and Big Sisters or the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.
