Gwendolyn Hale

Gwendolyn Mary (Abbott) Hale, a resident of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at the age of 98. Born in Peterborough, ON, she was the daughter of Samuel and Adah (Newton) Abbott. Gwen attended Peterborough Business College and had a successful career, owning the Albion Wood Yard in Peterborough and working at the head office of Quaker Oats. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Gwen was a woman of faith who dedicated herself to teaching Sunday school, prayer meetings, and women’s bible studies. She actively participated in Missionary Conferences and enjoyed nurturing her artistic side through baking and painting.

Gwen is survived by her son, Jim (Christine), as well as her grandchildren, Ben (Eva) and Katherine Hale, and her great-grandchildren, Jensen, Della, Jacob, and Nathan. She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Laurie,” and her daughter, Janice Hale. The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Goodin, the nursing staff, and all other personnel at the Veterans Unit of Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

In accordance with Gwen’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 28th, at the Cambridge Cemetery in Cambridge, Kings County, NS. Reverend Joe Gosbee will be officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cambridge Baptist Church.
